Proud Dad
« on: May 12, 2009 - 12:02:00 AM »
My daughter qualified for the state track tournament in 5A. They have had her all over the place all season long. She has done long jump, javelin, 100m, 4x100 relay, 200m, 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles among a few others I cannot remember. Well I guess she settled into the 300m hurdles pretty well. She started out running a 58 and in 4 races she is now doing a 50 in the 300 hurdles. Not too shabby for a 9th grader. Just felt like sharing that with you guys/gals so I could get a slap on the back and a few  :2thumbs:
Hey troutstreamnm, I am going to be in Albuquerque this weekend watching her compete, any shows going on up that way?  :naughty:

Congrats, if she keeps training throughout HS and not let the boys get to her she will be a force in college.

Tell her congrats, its a huge accomplishment.  A friend I graduated with is still competing at a very high level running long distance, and just won another race a little while ago.  If thats what she wants to do, have her keep it up.

Hmm, she's what, 14, 15?  Only 8 years apart...    :icon16:

Thanks for all the kind words. Her favorite sport is soccer. She made district and even all state last fall as a starting freshman goal keeper. She is also an excellent softball player but she has been shying away from that sport because the coach here kind of messes with the girls swings and she does not like to hit lefty. She heard that with her speed he would almost certainly make her a left handed hitter and although she can switch hit she prefers to hit mainly right handed. She is 15 and has about 5 more months before she can date so sorry Steve. I readily admit I am going to be the proverbial asshole dad to her dates.

Brett,

Her running time is pretty impressive.    Congrats to her.   :clapping:

About the softball thing. A lefty hitter is always one step closer to first base than a right hander. A decade or so back, I played softball with a guy that ran track in college. He hit lefty, but was a weak stick. All he had to do was hit a ground ball to short or third, and he would beat it out. It was hilarious... unless I was on first base getting easily tossed out going to second.    :stomp:

Congrats, I remember my coach asking me to try the hurdles.  I didn't clear one, but I did a decent time, just knocked everyone of them down......
