Autometer Sport Comp 2 gauge compatibility?
« on: May 11, 2009 - 08:23:18 PM »
Hey Guys,

I'm getting ready to order my new gauge/dash setup for my 74 Challenger. I'll be purchasing the instrument cluster that XV sells and I'm planning to go with Autometer Sport Comp 2 gauges. Are there any compatibility issues I should be aware of? Any special sending units I'll need to purchase, etc? I'm replacing all of the existing wiring with the Mopar wiring setup from Painless Wiring. Keep in mind, I'm really new to all of this. Thanks in advance!

James

Many of the Autometer gauges that require sending units come with one that has correct connector and calibration for the gauge. The exception is the fuel gauge.  It is typically calibrated to a GM sender, but they provide the ability to re-calibrate it.

Autometer has all the instructions available online for all their gauges, so you can get the exact details of what you are up against.

I noticed most of the gauges they sell come in either Mechanical or Electric. The electric are much more expensive because they claim they're more accurate. Will either work for my setup, or will getting electric add a bunch of complications?

The only electric gauge I know will had complications is the speedo.  it does add much complexity but will require a hall effect sending unit and more than likely will need to be calibrated.  The calibration procedures are in the instructions. The gauge does not come with the sending unit but they do sell them.  The other standard gauges should not add any complexity.
