    Hi Guys...

    After 5 times i have startet my 70´ 318 engine it came up with what I think is a lifter noise from driver side top. Are there some adjustment opportunities.... I have startet the engine 5 times after its have stand in 5 years, the first times was there no noise.. It has new oil and filter

    I have not have the car out for a spind yet..

    Oil pressure 75psi at idle.

    no adjustment
     check for a plug inserted up to the left side lifter bank above the crank

    The valve train in hydrolic lifter set up is not adjustable.  They are self adjusting so to speak.  Hope that helps some.

    I mean that Chryco write, with the plug inserted up to the left side lifter bank ?

    Will it be possible to take the lifters up with a magnet...

    I would run it for a while, get some heat into it.  It is common for lifters to make some noise after not running for long periods of time.

    I startet it up again today and took her out for a littel spind. And it sounds better. I will chance the oil and filter again, and see how "she" runs after...

    yes lifters can be changed without removing the intake using a magnet if nessisary

    Small blocks do not like to site very long.  Lifters will colapse at times when they site.  Some times it is hard to get the oil back into them but it should be ok.  Hope it does ok.

    This may be way out in left field but are you sure it's a lifter? I had a noise coming from the left side of my 318 once and swore it was a bad lifter. The noise turned out to be an exhaust leak that went away after I re-torqued the bolts.   :2cents:

    Great point. Even with a big block I was fooled once. A leak between the header flange and the heads sounded like a valve train problem to me at first too.    :banghead:

    I have done this with Neils guidance, changed all the lifters....?  Never dawned on me that I might have a bad exhaust gasket!  I bought good exhaust gaskets and havent looked back since.

    Ï have changed the oil and filter and tightened the headders... And now she runs like a pussycat, It reallý helps.

    So can i always change the lifters in the winter months...

    No, you can swap lifters about as fast as an oil change..well one side.

    Remove valve cover..the 5 bolts holding the rocker shaft down, remove rocker shaft and arms. Then get a magnet flexible rod and pull each lifter out by the big holes between the push rods.

    I did mine during a cam swap and I had a lifter tray under the intake that needed to be pushed up while pulling each lifter.

    Be sure to break in the lifters like you would a new cam...then again you might as well stick a new camshaft in once you get all the lifters out...
