Cant get 8-3/4 yoke off
« on: June 12, 2009 - 07:50:46 AM »
I have an 8-3/4 with 789 case all dissassembled with the exception of the pinion and yoke. The yoke refuses to give up its grip. Ive tried to tap the pinion out, then beat the pinion out, then tried to use a puller on the yoke which decided to pull the flat washers on it thru the slots on the gear puller. Im at a loss unless i heat it up then use the gear puller or take it somewhere to get pressed off. Anybody have any other suggestions.
Thanks
Dave

Take the big nut off first? :roflsmiley:  Sorry I couldn't resist! I had a tough time getting mine off to . I had to replace the pinion seal. I used a steering wheel/harmonic balancer puller. I cranked on it then tapped the end of the threaded part ( on puller)with a hammer till it finally gave way.

I had one that took several days with a puller. Each day I would be able to tighen it just a little bit more....

I walked away from it the last time, & about 10 minutes later BANG! It popped free & scared the crap outa me.

I finally got it off after about 30 min of heating and pulling. 10th time was a charm.
