front backing plate original color?
« on: June 04, 2009 - 06:44:50 PM »
Can anyone settle a debate that my dad and I are having?  We are redoing the front suspension on our 70 chally with manual drum brakes (10"brakes) and have been arguing as to what the original color of the front backing plates were.  I want to say semi flat black and dad seems to think that it was natural steel.  I know the backing plates on our rear axle are semi flat black.  Would they both be the same colors?  As in front and backs?

Thanks for everyones input.

Brian

Front disc brake dust shields were natural. And front drum brakes that I had were natural on quite a few cars. But as far as proof....keep argueing. Cause I dont have proof myself

Hmmm...maybe it depended on the vendor what coating or plating it got?

it could depend on vendor , or which plant the car was built at or if they ran out of black paint , nothing is an absolute when you build 100s of cars / day
