Stupid question- How to tell '72-'74 Cudas apart
« on: July 16, 2009 - 12:46:29 PM »
I enjoyed the thread titled Stupid question- How to tell '72-'74 Challenger apart. There was a lot of good info. I am interested in the same type of thing for the 72-74 Cudas. What are all the little small differences and changes between years?

Well I'm not sure about Challengers but cudas . . . .

1972 Cuda's/barracudas differences mostly were around the bumper areas.  They had chrome bumper guards like the previous 70-71 cars.  No filler piece between the body and the bumper.

1973 Cuda's/barracudas was the first year of the big rubber bumper guards and the filler piece.  They came with either a 340, 318 or 6 popper and the seat belts strapped to the ceiling inside the window.

1974 Cuda's/barracudas had the same bumper guards but they came with 360's instead of 340's and the seatbelts had hangers for the shoulder straps.  That is the way I usually tell which are 74's.

I think that the seats had different covers for each year also and the emblems on the tail panel move around alittle.    Hope this helps!

and heres a head scratcher,a couple of my buddies tell me that these emblems came on the car and are in the right spot, this is a 1972 barracuda BH23,(it has had one repaint, but otherwise a largely unmolested original "survivor" if you will)i had never seen these on a 72 barracuda, and i had a 74 barracuda a few years back and the emblems were on the rear 1/4,anyone else see these emblems on a 72 in this spot before?

I had a 72 Barracuda several years ago with the emblems on the door like that. None of my other 72-74 cars had them, but they could have been removed at some point, I guess.

Mine had them there originally too.
I know its the correct location since my parents bought the car when it was only 1 year old.
