Cool find
« on: June 10, 2009 - 07:05:04 PM »
Me and a buddy of mine mow the lawn at the local methodist church, a few weeks ago they purchased a lot behind the church that was ll grown up and had an old house on it and the church asked us if we would be interested in working for them for a week or so to clean up the lot and we agreed to it. They told us that they wanted everything gone and that if there was anything there we wanted that we could have it. the place was a dump, the guy that used to live there was an auctioneer and anything that didnt sell would just get thrown out in his yard, we were cleaning up the scrap pile when my buddy yelled come look at this, there were 2 old porcelin gas signs just laying there under some old tin. well we each took one and this is the one i got, i brought it home and washed it with some hot soapy water then waxed it with some turtle wax and suprisingly it turned out very nice, especially from sittin on the ground for many many years, im not sure how old it is, if anyone out there knows how old it might be or what its worth please let me know. The one my buddy has is white with a blue border and says gulftane in the middle of it and im currently trying to buy it from him.

Pretty Neat !!!!

I would say mid to late 60's..

That went on top of the pump...

I had a old Sinclair sign from the 60's , but I threw it out a long time ago...

That's a cool sign. There is a market for old signs and automotive collectibles. Off the top of my head I'd guess maybe $50.00 bucks in value. Not bad for a backyard find!! So how's the paint job coming on the Challenger?? It was looking like you and your dad had things well under control!! I had a friend that had a similar experience happen while painting the engine bay on his '70 Roadrunner. Somehow he wrinkled the paint on the fender. Now he is painting the whole car!! :22yikes: Enjoy your summer!! Our car club is sposoring a HUGE show this weekend. Should be fun!!

We finished everything except tearing down the house, we told them we needed a dump truck or a dumpster to throw all of teh trash in before we tore it down and they basically said no, so we will just leave that for someone else to do. I wish i had taken a picture of the pile that i found the sign in, the guy had his entire fence lined with box springs that you would lay a mattres on, i guess he couldnt sell them and just decided to make a fence out of it, but we haouled 8 truck loads of scrap iron off and only had about half of it gone, we stopped because we were scartching up our trucks pretty bad and me and my buddy both have pretty nice trucks and it wasnt worth the 4 dollars per load that we were getting for it.
