In New Mexico we have "Horseless Carriage" plates for cars 35 years or older that are used for show or educational purposes.  Five year registration with no inspection and it was $25 when I got my plates four years ago.   :2thumbs:

As far as I know, NC has no antique plates, however:

You don't need an inspection on cars 35 years old or older.

You can run a plate from the year of your car provided you keep the "real" registered plate under the front seat for easy access if pulled over by law enforcement. NO, the number on the vintage plate is NEVER recorded by the DMV. You could literally run a different plate every day of the week.

To avoid paying propert taxes (YES, cars are taxable property here), you can run a transporter tag as long as you're going to/ coming from a car-related event. I suppose you could mount the vintage tag and keep the transporter under the seat. ("Tag" = "Plate"  LOL)

i have had the vintage plates in colorado and now in Florida. there are no inspections in florida so it does nothing for me there, but it brings my yearly renewal down to just over $20. all they did was come out and ensure that was the car you were putting the plates on and thats it. no restrictions on mileage either. Colorado saved me money becuase it was one emission test in the lifetime you owned the vehicle and replace the plates every 5 years.

Thanks for bringing this up guys! I have been debating on either personalized tags, antique tags, or original tags for both the Dart and the Challenger. I have original '71 tags that say A440 for the Challenger but I was thinking about getting personalized ones for it. Once I replace the torsion bar and bleed the brakes in the Dart then I will get it inspected but I am still undecided on which plate to get as I don't want to get it inspected annually, but I do plan on driving it a bit but not everyday. VA is a real pain when it comes to the rules of the road.  :villagers:

There are a lot of people in PA that have antique tags and used stock wheels for the pics. And then changed them back. I never heard of any of them getting pulled over for their wheels. Or you could get Classic tags that are permanent, same price but you still have to have your car inspected once a year. But you can have after market wheels.
