Charging system question.
« on: June 18, 2009 - 12:44:18 PM »
After my adventure with putting in my dist. I put the car on a charger overnight to bring the battery back up. I have been driving it for the last 2 days and noticed that the gauge is not showing any charging only centered or discharging. Is that normal after a full charge? Or did I mess something up?

I have put about 40 miles on it since the dist. install. It starts up great and runs pretty good. It gets ruff when you flip on the headlights and shows a discharge on the battery which it never did before. Like the alt is not kicking on. But you turn the lights off and it smooths out. Ideas?

Any questions or tips would be great.

no that is not normal , you either have a wiring issue or a regulator or alt problem

Worried you would say that.

I think I may have found my problem. I have a plug near the carb with 3 wires Dark Green, green, and Brown. I cut off the hot lead as the wire was bad. I thought it was part of the old choke. I think by removing the hot lead I may have disconnected the regulator for the alt. Sound about right?

blue is 12 v to both the alt & reg , green wire returns from the alt to the reg & grounds through the reg so the green wire by the carb would be the problem , the other green wire should have red tracer & is for the horns , the brown wire is for the washer bottle
