Keys/locks
« on: May 20, 2009 - 12:56:22 PM »
My Cuda's door locks do not open with the ignition key. Can I take the door locks and ignition key to a locksmith and can he key the locks to the key or do i need to pull the ignition lock out also?
Similiar question for the glovebox, console lock and trunk key. The glovebox and console do not work with the trunk key.
Are the door locks stamped with a key code? I seem to remember seeing locks in the past that had a key code stamped in to it.

You can have a locksmith key your locks to the ignition key - I did and it worked fine.  No need to remove the ignition switch.  I think the door locks are different left and right. the actuator arms are mirror imajes - I think.  Glove box and console can be keyed to the trunk also.

being a locksmith I agree , unless th eign is worn , new pins could be a bonus & you could just change the ign to match the doors if you have a key for the doors now

Chryco Psycho,
Being that you are a locksmith, is this something any locksmith should be able to do? Will most locksmiths be willing to do this? Can the locksmith figure out the key code from the key?
Thanks for the info.

Most locksmiths can do this , but not all do automotive locks so find someone who does auto
finding the Key code form the key will be difficult unless it is available on computer , but finding the cuts for the key from the key is easy

So the trunk and the console can be keyed like the glove box?
