Seat Foams?
« on: August 02, 2009 - 03:51:06 PM »
Okay, I got a great deal on a full white seat cover set from troutstreamnm so I will be using my stock seats after all. Are new seat foams really worth 300 bucks? It just sucks knowing that there is probably less than 10 dollars worth of foam but if it will bring new life to my seats then I will save for them. I also would like some people to suggest which place to get them. I would love to just slide the new covers over the old velour type covers and be done with it but that just seams too easy. I have always hated E body seats because they really seem kinda like flat slabs. Would my opinion change if I had new foams? Could it be that I have never sat in a car with good stock padding? Thanks for any help you guys/gals can give me.

If your foams are somewhat intact maybe a local upholstery shop could add some reinforcements etc. to bring up to more modern standards...possibly for less than $300 ..
I never found my seats objectionable but I was much younger & have since come to appreciate adjustable backs, lumbar support yada-yada.

Thanks for the tips. I will take the seats apart and check everything out. It might be that the springs are broken in a few places or the foams are toasted. I dont know how much extra foam I could squeeze in the stock seat covers but it would be nice for them to have a little bit more contour.

IDK, but my foams seemed pretty good when I did my seats over, after an 8+hr drive to Carlisle my back was pretty sore.  Not sure if "new" foams would cure that. :2cents:

Hey Neil, will they work with the 71 Deluxe seat covers? If so give me a bit to tear them down and see what they look like and if they suck I will definitely get with on yours. By no means should you feel like you need to hold them for me though. It will take a couple of weeks before I can go get my seats from my dads house and tear them down.
Thanks for the info 72Challorange
