Help IDing mirrors
« on: June 23, 2009 - 12:15:53 PM »
Help. I need help identifying the correct '72-'74 remote rallye mirrors. If you can post pictures with dimensions of the spacing between the screw holes, that would be great! What other way can I tell which are e body and which are b body (or a body)? I bought what I was assured a '72 'Cuda driver's remote mirror. It was wrong. It was the same as what I have on the car. What is on the car has the screw holes close together. Whoever put them on just drilled the door to mount the mirrors.
Thanks!

sounds like you have 70 mirrors.  Are they good and are they chrome?  I have 72 chrome that are very good and want the correct 70 mirrors for my barracuda.  So we might be able to trade if you want.  Let me know.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

426HEMI,
I'll snap a photo and you can tell me if they are 70 mirrors.

as far as I know the screw spacing didn`t change just the length of the base was longer after 70

That's true for E-bodies. I have seen on E-Bay often, where people sell 73-74 B-Body mirrors claiming they fit E-Bodies. They have the same head, but the bolt pattern of the base is at least an inch longer.

CP,
What are the measurements of the mirror bases? What is the length of the '70 vs, the '72-'74?
I pulled my pass. side mirror off. The attaching screw spacing is 3". What the previous owner did was drill new holes in the door to use sheetmetal screws. I am assuming the mirrors I have are E body since the spacing for the nutserts are 3". They must have used sheetmetal screws since one nutsert is missing.
I would like to find the correct mirrors at Carlisle.  Could you please provide the base measurement and any other tips to correctly ID the mirrors.
Also, the base has a part number (sorry forgot the paper where it was written) but I could not find it in the '70-'71,'72 or '73 parts manual. I am not sure if the number is for the assy. or for the base.
My mirror base is 6 1/4". See attached photos.
