    I never realized the Sheriff's connection before

    I always loved the southern sheriff in the Dodge commericials.  "You in a heepa touble boy."  I just rewatched "In the Heat of the Night"  That Dodge Sheriff is a take off of Sheriff "Bill Gillespie" played by Rod Stieger (for which he won the Academy Award that year, 1967)

    Right down to the yellow, aviator shooting glasses.

    Rod Stieger was one of my favorite actors.
