How to adjust brake light switch
« on: July 10, 2009 - 12:16:31 PM »
Brake lights are staying ON with foot off of pedal.  If I lift the pedal upward slightly the lights go out.  I know there is a switch on the brake pedal arm, what I need to know is do I need a wrench or whatever to adjust it.  I took the neg battery cable off so the lights don't go on while I'm not home.

Looking at the '73 Service Manual there is a screw that holds the bracket that needs to be loosened. A .120 spacer should be placed between the pedal "blade" & switch then slide the switch till fully engaged, tighten then remove spacer.  DO NOT pull up on pedal. Stop lamps should come on with 1/2" pedal travel for power 1" for manual.

the switch is on a slide , loosen the 7/16 bolt & slide the switch toward the pedal slightly

Thank you both for the info.  I got out my 7/16 wrench and adjusted the switch.   :2thumbs:
