Pock marked steel part

I have a used pinion snubber I want to use to replace the worn out one on my 8 3/4 rear. I blasted all the rust off of it. The bracket is pocked marked. I wanted to smooth the metal a little before I prime and paint it. I know it is where no one will see it. I still want to make it look nice and maybe learn something in the process.
How would you smooth the pock marks? What product would you use? Would you prime it first and then put filler over it?

I would use a self etching primer and filler over that.

What type of filler? Maybe an aluminum filler like Aluma lead? Is there someone that sells self etching promer in a spray can? I don't have a paint gun yet. I was planning on using spray cans, since my big compressor is not hooked up yet and the garage is full of stuff

might be easier to just buy another for 10 bucks that needs no work and do your painting on it

I sprayed mine with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator then thin coat of filler.  Sanded down and sprayed again with Encapsulator.  Then painted.  Too bad no one will ever see it.

A pock mark is a divot left from the metal that has rusted out. It leaves an irregular surface.

Use mar glass.It is alot stronger then filler.It will not flex and crack like filler.
