Have you asked your neighbors if they had any problems?  It seems very odd that you would be the only one affected.  Did the cable guy check the main box at the street where it branches off to your place?  This is definitely a bummer.

i dont have any neighbors on either side of me, but housing maintenance said i was the only one to call in the complaint. the cable guy said that the board that i was on in the main cable thing was fried so he moved me to another board and everything worked but if it was the cable then the ground would be fried and it wasnt. i dont really know electrical so i am really up sh*t creek here. I am going to contact my insurance company and see what they say.

What a bummer way to spend my 25th birthday waiting more than half the day for the cable guy for him to tell me nothing. I did get to go to the gym this morning at 0445 so that was nice. oh well, ill have another one next year. lol

I dont know how renters insurance works but home owners insurance would cover that I suspect. I had a ring stolen once and they didnt bat an eye lash, paid it out in full. My wife left her 12k diamond engagement ring in a hotel and homeowners was in the process of paying for it when we found out the manager that claimed "I have not heard about it" suddenly remembered she had it once a police report was written up and the cops were asking her and her employees questions. I am sure she was intending to enjoy that nice diamond lol.

Sorry to hear about your electronics Drew. I hope you can get some sort of compensation. I have a high dollar battery backup/surge protector for my computer and my TV & phone is also plugged into it. I don't care how good they are, a direct lightening strike can fry everything. We had a strike to a tree across the street. The power line touched the tree and it fried my TV and phone, and the surge protector, but the computer was saved. So it did some good. But on the subject of power surges, the same strike and ensuing power surge also fried my next door neighbor's central air unit and the homeowner's would not pay because it was a surge. Had it been a direct strike, it would have paid!! Go figure!! :swear: :stomp: :swear:
