Problem with 48RE

Sorry this is really not a transmission that any challenger or cuda needs but mopar anyway  :bigsmile:

My friend has an 2006 dodge ram with 46re transmission. When accelerating very slowly the trans doesnt know which gear to stay on. It changes from
1->2->1->2->1 many times. When accelerating more, it works normally, when i floor it, it still works well. The trans has 50000miles on it.

I took the valve body and cleaned it, installed transgo shift kit and adjusted the bands. Shifts a lot better but the problem is the same. Any good ideas where i could find the problem?  ???

It sounds like the governor pressure solenoid is bad (sticking)

Is this a Cummins ?

Yes its a Cummins. 4x4 trans if that helps anything. How can i identify the solenoid? Can i fix it or should i replace it?

Thanks, I`ll try to order it asap. Do i have to remove the valve body or is it easier?

Do you mean the shift kit wont do what its supposed to do or how is it bad? What you do prefer?

No VB removal necessary. Here is a step by step:

I like the TF OD JR kit. The 48RE kit is complicated and I think it has a problem with too high of pressures.

I also recommend opening up the solenoid block to get plenty of feed oil to the solenoid.

3/4 inch drill bit is used.

Thanks for the info, i thought that the TF OD JR kit wont fit the new valve body. Thats why i installed this kit.

I installed new solenoid and drilled the block for bigger oil feed. Problem fixed, thanks for the tip.  :cheers:
