Exhaust tiphangers cuda-chally
« on: March 05, 2008 - 09:58:01 AM »

Don't know if this is the right department for my question but I wonder if the exhausttip hangers
mounted on the trunkfloor are positioned at the same location on cuda and challenger -70.
My Cuda has a new trunkfloor but no exhausthanger mounted but my chally has and with thinking of
a TTi system I need to hang it up in the trunkfloor and it would be good if I could use the chally as example.  :feedback:

Check out the one's in the middle of the page. The one bracket mounts thru the back seat area on the D/S.

The second from the top is the ones I mean, bolted in the trunkfloor. Can I use the positions on the chally as measurement
where to drill the holes in the cuda trunkfloor? Chally having original trunk.  :clueless:

We do all mean the position between the gastank and the leafsprings on both sides?

I'm not a rocket scientist, but I had a flash in my mind...oh no.    The exhaust heat sheilds mount the same way on both chal and barra, the 2 big holes will be where the brakets you need to install will bolt to. Install the sields, mark the holes and drill them.   Just a thought....my head hurts I need a break

Topcat, that's the ones I mean. Maybe my question was unclear. My challenger has those hangers, my cuda has a new trunkfloor
and no exhaust tiphangers bolted in the trunkfloor. Now I bought a TTi system and the hangers are included and my question is if
I can put the hangers on the same place as they are on the challenger.

You will have to have the mounting brackets on the mufflers (like on the original design) spot or mig welded to the back upper area corner on the rear flat back area of the muffler for it to appear just like factory did. Then maybe you can use the mount sytem from the trunk floor. However, the TTI is a different shape than what the factory offered. This could alter the exact positioning even if you did weld on the original bracket mounting tabs to the rear of the muffler.

Or...devise some other type of bracket like in that picture, re configured so that the positioning of the mufflers is concentric that the tips come out thru the rear valence in the same location. You'll have to come up with some ideas on your own now on how you would like it look. Certainly with a little pre thought into this, you should be able to design some type of bracket and mount sytem that'll look good too at the same time.

Perhaps there are some other members here who can chime in that replaced their mufflers located under the hear shield with a different shape and how they mounted theirs in place and keep the overall original look.

Good questions...on how to keep factory look but upgrading exhaust performance.

I have a 3" tti system in my 71 cuda, with a fairly new trunkpan, and one of these hangers was missing, allowing the tail to rattle against the cutout. Do not drill for the brackets until your exhaust is FULLY installed, cause the hanger tab could easily be an inch or two off one way or the other. In my case I see the prior owner had 3 sets of drill holes in the trunk floor before he got it right!
