Is the Fuel Level gauge fused? and other Weird issues...

I'm at work right now, not close to my books, so I'm hoping one of your can help clear something up for me.

I drove the Challenger to work, and there is something goofy happening.

First off, the fuel level gauge is not working.  Are these fused?  I haven't had a chance to check the fuses or do a continuity test or anything yet, but it worked fine the last time I drove it.

Next, and this may be related/unrelated... I have a Summit CD box and a Summit Tach with the shift light light, and the shift light would flicker a little bit occasionally while at a cruise RPM.  Not sure what would cause this... Hopefully it's not a sign of one or the other dieing.

the fuel level is not fused , power just runs from the voltage reg goes through the guage ,down the wire to the sender & the sender has a ground strap so you can tace the ciurcuit out from either end & check your ground
 not sure on the ign problem but the shift light should not flicker below the RPM it is set to

I'm not sure what gauges you have, but if it was a power source, your temp gauge or oil pressure gauge would have acted up too.

Try this test. Disconnect the blue wire going to your sending unit, and clip it to your ground strap. At this point, the gauge should read full when you turn your switch to the "on" position. If not, your fuel sending unit has gone to heaven.

I have heard that fuel gauge problems can be a result of a bad ground from the sensor?  Perhaps try checking out improving the grounding?

Excellent!  I'll check the sending unit out as suggested by MEK.

I have the standard gauges, FYI.

I figured out what was causing the flickering shift light, the steering column harness had come ever so slightly loose from the dash harness, and was causing the tach to power on, power off, power on, power off.... which made it look like the shift light was flickering.

Now it seems I have another issue of it "breaking up" at higher RPMs, but I think I'll figure out the gas gauge issue first.
