Strange restoration method

But strange ain't real good :-\


About 1/2" thick at some places





Picture doesn't really capture the "ding" there
But I'm kind off impressed by the craftsmanship in the next one  ::)

They just banged it with a hammer and smeared something in to get the shape right  >:(
I hope I can fix some off the things with those factory style restoration quarters. Do they include that 90° lip thingy by the door? I'm kind off confused about the statement "does not include the door jamb". Still trying to figure out what to do with the area around the trunklid at the rear.

Brazed and stuffed with mud,definitely not the correct way to do body work!On the positive side I don`t see any newspapers or door screen filling the rust holes or have you just not ground deep enough yet.  :o

Don't feel bad.  Found similar work on the driver's side rear frame rail on mine.

Ouch!!!  That is even worse than what my poor upper quarters looked like....The good thing is there's always donor metal on some other less fortunate car just waiting to be put onto a car worth saving.  Too bad Camaro sheetmetal didn't fit E-bodies so even parts cars could be salvaged for restoring. ::) ;D ;D ;D ;)  I've seen the new panels Goodmark is coming out with and all I saw was they include up to the roof line (where the roof meets the quarter about halfway up) and the portion where it's welded to the trunk seam.  Unfortunately, I don't remember seeing the door jamb area included as you have already stated.  Good luck Glenn and keep us updated! ;) :P

One thing's sure, I'm not going to give up on this car.
But I do expect to find the same stuff mirrored, and there is something about the roof, got a bad feeling about that.
Unfortunately parts cars are somewhat rare on the other side off the pond  :-[ . I'll have to give drmopar a call if those goodmark quarters won't help at the door. Or is there another place to get sheetmetal from parts cars?

I have a yellow '74  'CUDA with that much bondo on the quarters and roof too :'(

The worse part is the front frame looks like it has been changed also :'(

I saw the bondo on the quarters but I didn't think to check the roof

And I thought I did bad body work !  :(  Glenn sorry to see the work you have ahead of yourself but it's worth it in the end.  I'm also glad to see you'll be fixing it correctly. Good luck !
