beef up an 8 1/4 ? ? ?

The free 8 3/4 rear end I got is not a SG, sooooo, is my 8 1/4 good enough to handle 425 HP if I have Moser Axle beef it up and turn it into a Posi rear end?
I  was going to have Moser Axle rebuild my free 8 3/4, but since it's not SG, it would cost an extra $600 to turn it into a POSI rear end.

money spent on an 8 1/4 diff is a waste IMO unless you can find a cop car 8 1/4 in a diplomat or something & get the gears & SG out of that

I find  8 1/4 NOS sure grips on ebay forsale all the time for 250 bucks.   But if you drive down to my house. I will give you an 8 3/4 housing for free with axles to help you along.    2 hrs south of nashville on I-65

Is your 8 1/4 a sure grip?

How much money does Moser want to "beef up" your 8 1/4? And what are they going to do.

IMHO I your car's an automatic on street tires, just run the 8 1/4 you have in the car now if it's allready a sure grip. If it starts to howl then replace it.

I have not contacted Moser Axle as far as beefing up the 8 1/4.
I did talk to them about an 8 3/4. They said a rebuild on that, worse scenario, would be around $600. If they had to add SG, it would be an additional $650.

You must be close to Deal's Gap. I road my 1800 VTX down there, you're in God's country. The Smokey's are much more than the word beautiful can describe.

don't put money into that 8 1/4 when the same money can be put into an 8 3/4

Sure Grips are expensive. Even used. No one is going to give you one for free.

A used 489 cast limited slip 3:55 is about $350-$450. Deduct $50-$75 for 3.23. Might be slightly different in different areas.

Just buy a E-body 8 3/4 with axles. Offer the 66 Charger rear end back to the guy who gave it to you.
