Bias ply tires
« on: July 27, 2009 - 11:59:17 AM »
How many people have bias ply tires on their cars and actually drive the cars with them on?
When I bought the 'Cuda, it had brand new reproduction Goodyear Polyglas F70x14 tires on it. I LOVE the way these tires look on the car. The car rides and drives (around town) better than I remember bias ply tires riding. The car doesn't drive that great at highway speeds. The car seems to drift back and forth on certain stretches of highway. Also they don't handle at speeds. I got a scare last week when we went to a cruise night about 40 miles away. When I went to exit the highway, I quickly remembered I was not driving a modern car with radial tires!
I have some Polyglas G60x15 tires on the road runner that I was going to put on the Cuda to see how the car looks, how it handles and rides. Am I wasting my time? We want some bigger fatter tires, but we LOVE the look of a bias ply! Are we crazy to stick with bias ply tires?

Each to their own
the Bias ply tires were discontinued for a reason , they are not nearly as good as the radials as you have found out
the rest is your call ... drive the car with the poorer tires but compensate for it or upgrade to a radial tire

Doesn't Coker or someone offer a radial tire that looks exactly like the bias-ply?

well i understand what you are saying a biasply tire seems to stand taller but they just plain are not safe just watch this vid and part of the problem is ,traction, and sidewall flex ,you should buy some radials and you will notice a huge difference in handling and stopping, again watch this vid and look what happens to these donuts they have for tires

I still have my belted tires on the Challenger, but thats only because it hasn't run in years.  It will get new ones before it getsmore than rolled around.
