wheel Spacers???
« on: August 02, 2009 - 01:52:43 PM »
I've got a 7 1/4 rear in my 70 Challenger. I got a free 8 3/4 that is 3'' narrower than the E Body rear.
Would it be OK to use a 1 1/2'' Wheel Spacer to get my wheel out to the stock width?
I'd like to go even wider, there's plenty of room to go wider, would this torture the axle?
I would also have to move the perch on the 8 3/4 to match my spring width.

Stock wheels with no spacers center the load of the tires on the center of the wheel bearings (both front and rear).  Anything else cantilevers the load away from the bearing (and changes the scrub on the front wheels).  I think it would be worth it to get a stock axle, but if you use this one, how about using some rims with more offset instead of spacers?

I would get a stock width 8.75, they are not exactly rare.
