0 degree offset/clocking torsion bars?
« on: July 30, 2009 - 09:10:54 PM »
I have not seen any manufacturer list torsion bars clocking or offset and so I'm guessing most are the same as stock.  Does anyone know what companies do make these?  I want my car to sit low and still be stiff without cutting out and welding back in the torsion bar housing in the cross member.  Looking for a torsion bar around 1.10 diam.

thanks!
Dave

Just Suspension used to offer a 1.09" bar with 0* offset (vs the 30* stock offset), but they seem to have removed it in favor of a standard offset 1" bar. You might try calling them and seeing if they still have any laying around. Otherwise, your next size option is probably the 1.12" bars that Firm Feel offers. But if you use those bars you'll need to either get some 2" drop spindles or re-index the torsion bar anchors, unless you don't have a problem with the torsion bar adjusters being maxed out with the car slightly above stock ride height.

I have the FFI 1.12" bars in my car and love em, but I also have Magnumforce 2" drop spindles to get it to sit right. If you go with a 1" diameter bar you can probably avoid the drop spindle/torsion bar anchor indexing problem, and for a street car 1" bars are probably just fine. My car is pretty stiff with the 1.12" bars, and I still have KYB's and 15" rims with a 60 series tire.

I called Just Suspension and you are right. They used to offer 0* but no longer do.  I called Firm Feel and they said the clocking changes as the diameter gets bigger (which makes sense) but they didn't tell me any specific numbers for each bar.  I went a different route for now and ordered XV level 1.  I have heard that all their torsion bars are over 1.00", and from what I understand the clocking is the same as stock.  Hopefully I can get a good stance with it.

thanks,
Dave

It'll have a stance similar to this once properly clocked...
