BTW jeryst - sorry I got distracted there for a moment.

I understand what you're saying except that I'm not interested in building a clone car - yeah the Ferrari Enzo that's actually just a Toyota MR2.  I mentioned that in one of the first few pages but it got buried pretty quickly by... ...well nevermind...

Anyways, the GTM is a unique kit - not a replica of any kind.  They did a rather amount of wind-tunnel testing and track testing to make it a solid, high performance chassis.  But apparently the body panels still need a lot of room to fit - thus why I'm thinking of holding off a little bit until I'm ready to tackle this challenge.

Wowser, this one went south in a hurry. I dont see why everyone is so up in arms about a guy wanting to build himself a mopar powered kit car. Sounds cool to me and it beats the hell out of another small block chevy powered kit car thats for sure. The last few posts show to me that Jeff is frustrated by the general silliness and lack of respect for a question. There are many people here who do not own a 'Cuda or Challenger but since when does that have to be a requirement for membership? Hey man, if you have the means and the inclination then I say that is reason enough to do it. I am glad to see someone is actually thinking of spending a little green instead of hiding in a shell like a tortoise.
To address the Palin thing though I have to disagree. Letterman got all kinds of laughs when he said A Rod had sex with Palins underage daugher. He apologized but then the media had a field day making fun of Sarah and her husband for defending their daughter. Where would Letterman be today if he had said A Rod had sex with Obama's underage daughter? Yup, he would be retired and disgraced and the whole world would be horrified that a man could say such a thing.

Jeff,
I will say it one more time and then I will never comment on it again.

It is your money, your desire, do whatever you want to do to make you happy.  You do not have to get everyone's approval to do this. Like I said before everyone is just trying to make sure you don't regret it later.

Heebee, I don't believe I have ever heard you say anything positive to anyone here. I was always tuaght if you don't have anything good to say about someone, then don't.  This is not a personal attack on members here, it is people that have talked to each other for a long time, and just trying to give advice.

As far as the "off topic" section, this absolutley belongs here, if it pertained to mopars, it would be in an appropriate section. If you do not care to read off topic, then don't click on it.

Wow.  I don't know who you are, but "me thinks u" are probably 18 to 22 years old and don't even HAVE a collector's car of any kind.  You talk like an idiot, so be aware that your opinion means exactly :poopoke: to me.

Yes - I should have Sarah Palin's ideals.  That's a great idea.  I'll start a 4-year project like this and then two years later get all sad because some guys on a car website made fun of me so I'll quit (while making a completely unintelligible speech on my way out.)

I mean, what planet are you from, anyways?  She's a quitter.  A crying, whining, brainless quitter.  The only thing I could possibly learn from her are things my parents taught me since I was five.  ONE) Sticks and stones can break your bones but words will never hurt you.  TWO) If at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again.

heebeegbz, I'm trying to engage in serious conversation on a serious topic with the adults of this forum.  I would suggest you visit the Dodge Neon boards with your childish comments.

Jeff

So you dump on palin then i respond in kind and you freak out , got it. and im the one with nothing good to say .

Weird, there was a Superformance Cobra ad on the bottom of the page.  Freaky how the ad machine can read your mind...  :sly:

Anyhows, here's my  :2cents: , not that it matters or anything.  Jeff, I think that some of the guys came down on you about the whole kit car thing may not have been about the kit car itself, but maybe do to your financial situation.  You're an adult, you know how to do your finance, everyone has their own way.  You know what to do.... I hope.  Just kidding!  :P

The GTM I agree is a unique vehicle.  I like Factory Five despite what some people say.  I think they have come a long way from their meager beginnings and the GTM is a very cool kit.  Granted, it's nothing like a production car as far as safety, comfort, and reliability, but if you want that, get a Honda or Toyota.  It's meant to be fun.  The GTM is unique in that it's not a copy of an original car in that it is an original design, although you may say it has drawn it's looks from several supercar type vehicles.  I like their Cobra kits.  Yes, it may not be that authentic, but they do look fun once they are built.  Have you contacted anyone that has made a GTM kit?  Gary Cheney up in NH has made several of their kits.  You could call FFR to get you references.  Not that you are actually going to get one of these deals next week or something, but it might be interesting to talk to some people.

The deal with me, as well as some of the other members, is that, let's say a Cobra, it's not a real car, thus people say it's "not a real car".  Of course it's a real car, but a copy of one to the max.  It's not even like taking a base Challenger and adding "R/T' badges to it.  To me, it's like taking a car to a costume party and saying, "Hey, look at me!  I'm trying to be a Cobra!"   Grante, that's where the GTM is a departure in that it's an "original design".  At that point I would call it a component car.  I would distance myself with the term "kit car" because one usaully thinks of a VW pan with a fiberglass tub of some sort glued to it.

HEMI in it, I'm sure it's doable.  It's just a matter of $$$.  Dreaming though is free.  Dream all you want.  It doesn't cost a nickle.

Whew - what a thread.  I'm glad to see it returned to the original topic.

Jeryst that's a beautiful roadster - never heard of that one.

Yeah I'm definitely going to sit on this idea for a while and see what else comes up in the next few years.  The GTM is still a great idea I think - I like that it's an original design, doesn't copy anyone, and has a lot of potential for customization and uniqueness (You guys should SEE some of the GTM's people are building - or having built for them - out there.)  If I wanted to bog you guys down with some heavy bandwidth, I'd post up some more pics.

Me, I thought you guys would be interested in the idea of taking a car based on the Chevy Corvette and making it HEMI Powered.  I know cost is going to be an issue - cost is ALWAYS an issue.  Our entire planet thrives on money - there's no way around it.  And let's face it - we're NEVER in a "positive cash flow with no debt."  It's impossible!  My wife and I just over the weekend discussed buying our next house instead of renting.  That means a 30-year mortgage!  I've got school loans for at least 17 more years - paying them off just in time to secure loans to send my kids into school (unless I can convince the wife not to have any...)  And those should last me pretty much up until I'm dead!  So there will always be debt.  It's just a matter of managing it, which I think I've finally taught myself how to do.

So thanks for the advice to those who provided it.  And to everyone else, if you HAD to drive a car with a piece of glass over the engine, wouldn't you want everyone to be able to see your HEMI underneath it?!

Does anyone watch Two Guys Garage on Speed Channel?  Last weeks show ha d a 2-for.  They had the guy for that ISIS (?) wiring system that was brought up a while back, and the car they were demonstrating it on was a GTM.  Nice car but I didn't like their color choice.  It was kind of like a dark brown or copper with a black stripe.  I will say the interior was rather cheesy, but I'm sure that can be done up however you want.

A number of kit cars now days are based of the Fiero platform, so if you're careful in the build, you can transfer a lot of the OEM GM interior to the kit and not end up with a interior hack job.
