Fuel Leak
« on: August 19, 2009 - 09:16:27 PM »
Have a trio of Holley 2 barrels on my '74 cuda.  Noticed the other day fuel leaking from the rear carb. Only after I shut the engin down though. Figured it may have been the float so I took it off, cleaned it out and tghe float seemed to work better than it did. I also replaced the bowl gasket in case. Started it back up today and still leaked. But again, only after I shut the engine down did it start.  Not sure where it could be leaking from. I saw it drip from the base below the arm of the accelerator pump. Could it possibly be the o-ring where accelerator pump attaches? Maybe a different gasket? Thoughts?

Is it the rear carb that's leaking or the center carb. The rear carb doesnt' have an accelerator pump. Sometimes the float bowl screws will work themselves loose and cause a float bowl leak. You know, a while back my rear carb just started leaking pretty bad out of the blue. I couldn't tell where it was leaking from either. I took the carb off, tore it apart and inspected all the gaskets, and everything looked fine. Put it back together and it's never leaked since. :dunno:

definately the rear carb that is leaking and tried to attach photo before but wantg working..trying again. Looks like an accelerator pump to me..but then again, dont know too much. Round piece that a connects to carb with arm that moves throttle opens.

you probably have the race carbs with an accelerator pump on each carb
there is a diaphragm gasket for the accerator pump in the bottom of the bowl , you need to pull the carb & replace the gasket in the pump

I was incorrect its the throttle control vacuum diaphragm...I saw the fuel drip from where this connects to the carb.  Does fuel go through that?
