Challenger parking light housings?
« on: October 05, 2009 - 11:38:48 AM »
What are you guys/gals doing to restore your parking light housings?    I started bead blasting mine and they are looking great except for the two mounting posts that sit down on the front valence.  The aluminium has corroded and is flaking off in chunks.  I had to drill the head off of one screw to separate the housing from the valence.  The other screw holes don't look that good inside either.  I am kind of leaning towards trying to find a good used pair but would like to use the origonals if at all possible.

I thought about drilling out the mounting holes and filling them with an epoxy before redrilling.  If I tried to repair the mounting posts, I'd have to paint the housings instead of leaving them there as-cast appearence.  What have you done and what would you do in this case.  Thanks

I know I've seen them new.  I just saw the housings and lenses for sale as a set for $144.96 each. :eek2:  That's too rich for my blood right now.

I found a cheap set on E-Bay since my lenses were good, I only needed the housings. I just want to mention something minor. The connector on the 70-71 housings is different than the 72-74 that you have. No real problem though if you get 70-71 housings...Just clip off the connectors, and solder on the ones from your old set.

I got the housings yesterday!  They look a lot better than what I was trying to work with.  Thanks again.
