Fluids- A833 and Dana 60 recommendations
« on: August 04, 2009 - 11:08:55 PM »
I have an 833 4 speed, and a 3.54 powr-lok. The rear has amsoil severe gear 75-90 in it now, and it has been dripping, but very slowly, so I want to check that and top it off. Only has 1000 miles in 3 years on it. Should it be replaced because of age? I hear this oil has the modifiers needed for the clutch, and is rated best by everyone I've talked to.
Also, What fluid for the tranny, which also has dripped a little.
Thanks for any advice.

I wish i was a chemical engineer , the arguement will start again soem say 80-90 is best others use 75-90 synthetic , I can tell you GL4 os good for manual trannys while GL5 is too slippery for the syncros to work correctly , I have used Redline Manual trans oil & it will shift properly as for the diff synthetic could cause brg & gear problems

Thanks Chryco.
Not looking to start up any old arguments.
Since amzoil is in my tranny now, I just want to top it off. Just bought it a month ago, and I want to make sure it has enough fluid in it. I see the drain plug on the left side. Where is the fill hole?
Thanks.

Ok. Maybe I should drain the amzoil and refill it anyway. Dont imagine another type oil should be mixed.
Thanks.

I quit. Checked 4 stores, and No one around here sells anything rated gl4. Guess I'll have to order online. I'll try the amsoil site.
Thanks

The service manual recommends Dexron ATF fluid for the A833. I tried 75/90 in it once just for an experiment and the syncro's didn't work well with the thicker fluid. For the rear end - You can't go wrong with AMZOIL. :2thumbs:

I ordered a qt of redline 90 mt from Summit since it was convenient to add it to an order.
Any problems using it to top off the existing amsoil in the unit.
No problems mixing the two, theyre both synthetic.
