Windshield wiper arm action

So I am out yesterday in the fish and of course it decides to do that 30% chance of rain thing.....So it starts raining.

My wipers work but they dont eem to have the full sweep....especially th drivers side...and they dont wantt o retract all the way down when you switch off...

Any tips or secrets?

I have plenty of other issues/questions going on right now....   but one more wont hurt I guess....LOL

the full sweep is an adjustment on the cover plate on the motor I believe , you have to clock it to the right position , the parking function is a problem with virtually every E body wiper motor , there is a way to fix it but I never figured it out , I just sent mine away to be rebuilt

mine have a full sweep but i rebuild mine with another,,i have to shut off in the right position but i dont mind  still drive a challenger

Firstly to get the full sweep on the wiper arms just remove the arm from the mount pivot and reposition it to where it sweeps full. Small steps at a time or it may damage something. I believe the park function is adjusted by turning the plate on the motor (don't know which way) once you have the sweep issue corrected. If you turn in the wrong direction it will simply park higher - no damage just go the other way. Small steps again like less than 1/16" at a time. Mark the cover against the wiper body to see what you have done at any time. Also ensure that the wiper arms will "climb" over the chrome trim to get to their park location behind the hood. IE make sure it is not sticking up which will bind the blade as it wants to go past. Somebody mentioned that there could be a broken part in the park mechanism (like my 73 had) which if is the fact then rebuild time it is as those pieces get extremely brittle at the age they are now. Jules rebuilt mine (like CPs we sent 3 units together) and ouch  . But no wiper problems now.

I just rebuilt mine myself  - with little experience.... It's just a matter of cleaning the armateur, square up the brushes, clean the terminals. Also, check that the lower window trim isn't stopping the arm - mine was sitting away from the window and binding the wiper. Pushed it down, rebend here and there...

I found that part of my issue is that the wiper blades want to hit the hood when it is trying to go into park...the blades I got were listed for the car....not sure WHY they want to hit?  The ones that were on there seemd to be a lower profile (the metal part)..........

I just order refills for the arms , the only arm I have found that does cler is the orginal metal one , all of the new ones are too tall except maybe the Retro series fom Trico or Tridon

Gonna hafta try that then....I think you are right....Wish I  kept the packaging for these...bought them a while back assuming they would work fine....I mean, they are just windshield wipers for pete's sakes......I kept the old wipers luckily....

  When I bought my Challenger the wipers were the only item I didn't check, they didn't work. I picked up a second wiper motor and when home in Australia I gave them both to an electrician who made one good wiper out of the two.   
  Wipers wouldn't park though, found that the wiper switch had a poor ground/negative so I made a wire to the frame under the dash, they now work and park. The switch has to reverse the polarity to the wiper motor to park the wipers.

Most of the 2 speed wipers had the park mechanism built into the arm assembly itself where it bolts to the motor. Make sure that you have the correct one. Make sure that the motor reverses when turned off.  I was always able to fix mine.
