convert to a four prong ballast
« on: September 05, 2009 - 06:54:36 AM »
I have a 4 pin ecu with a stock coil and 2 prong ballast.  For judging reasons, I need to convert to the original style 4 prong ballast.  How does this get wired?    My wiring harness as two wires going into each side of the ballast with one connector on each.  Do I need a different harness or can this be taken apart, and what about the connector for the 4 prong ballast, what does that look like originally?  The car will be only driven on and off the trailer and to the judging area.

If you are doing it for judging reasons, your car must have had the dual resistor setup originally, so separate the wires and re-terminate according to wire colour. Here is a pic of my plug but it may not be the correct colour for judging.

not quite sure qhat you are after , the 72 & newer cars had electronic ign , the blue wire is 12v feed to the resistor & is jumpered at one end of the ballast to feed both sides of the ballast , the other end haas the brown wire to feed the coil & the green with red trace wire to feed the ECU , which of course does nothing as you have the 4 pin ECU not the 5 pin type , the new ECU has the resistor built inside of the ECU on the 4 pin type . IF your harness has 1 plug for each end of the ballast with 2 connectors in each pkug than all you have to do is plug in the 4 pin ballast
