Lokar kickdown wire woes
« on: May 29, 2009 - 04:18:05 PM »
Now that the engine seems to have been worked out, it's time for another problem.  :pullinghair:

The bracket to fit the wire to the tranny, it's angled so that the wire hits the oil hose.
See picture:

Really doesn't look too good, and the wire snags on the hose, so the way it is now, it's about as useless as a cat door in an elephant stable.

I haven't seen anyone mention this before on the Lokar threads, so I wonder if maybe I'm doing something wrong, or could it be something weird with my tranny, having the hose in mind?

PS: Tactransman, I know what you'll say, and I totally agree, I should've bought the Bouchillion kit...
The Lokar kit is nice and shiny, but that's it. The drawing in the instruction specific for the 727 seems to have been drawn by someone who was told over the phone how the 727 looks like.
Not to mention that the instruction at one point says to cut away one inch of the braiding.
Really, it does. If Lokar KNEW it need to be like that, WHY could they not pack it that way in the first place?  It really seems like they made a generic kit into a 727 kit by making some instructions and drawings while they were high on crack.

The Bouchillion kit have adjustabillity on the bracket, and a gas wire with a plug that fits the stock hole in the firewall. Lokar want you to make a new hole in the firewall for the gas wire.

Well It looks like the bracket tab is bent down. I never use rubber hoses on the tranny back there. So maybe if the bracket was straight and you had the correct bent trans tube on there, it looks like it would work ok. But hard to tell by the pics

The bracket came bent that way.
But it's interesting to hear that rubber hoses aren't the thing to use for the tranny.
Seems like another upgrade coming soon.  :icon16:

Thank you guys!

I had a similar issue installing my lokar kit ...the braket/cable was hitting my tranny line (hard line)....if I rotated the bracket some it wouldnt hit the line, but then would hit the floorpan....

I ended up grabbing the bracket with locking pliers and bending it into place.

The clearance is TIGHT, but makes it ok. Good luck.

Mine is tight but needed no bending.  Took a bit to adjust but shifts nice now.

Hey, speaking of "tight" and lines and such....

Did anyone buy lines pre-made and end up having to cut a piece out of the front line?

I bought a set from Mancini and I had to chop 5" out of the front line.....they said the other sets they have measure the same, and that thet called their vendor and the sets they have do as well....

So is my car just 5" shorter than every other barracuda out there?  LOL

I thought maybe it was a set for a challenger, which is longer wheelbase-wise, but they have one set for both models.... :clueless: :clueless:

I ended up with rotating the bracket, and used a file to make the bolt hole oval, so I could pull the bracket away from the floor pan.

But the thing that really boiled my blood was the need to cut some of the braiding off to get more wire out of it. The Lokar throttle cable came with excess wire, no need to cut off any braiding there.

I ended up with a braiding that spreaded out and was impossible to get into the sleve.
I won't buy wires from Lokar again, at least not until they've sorted out this BS.
Next time, I'll give Bouchillion Performance a chance.

I had exactly the same experience with having to cut the braiding, and had the same issue with the "spread"...I did get it back together, though it took a while and some choice cuss words.... :smilielol:

However, the fix for that is that you dont tke off the aluminum sleeve....you just push it back up the cable BEFORE cutting the braided sleeve!  I figured that out AFTER removing it...... :bricks1:......the throttle cable comes with a note about this, but the kickdown does not......

It does seem like the cable overall is just a bit short, at least the way mine ran.....it makes it but it could use a few extra inches for slack I think overall.

I bought a set from Inline tube. They install like the factory lines. running up the side of the oil pan on top of the k member then under the side of the timing chain. What I remember was the line that hooked up to the drivers side coolant tank on the radiator had to be bent just a little to put it in place. It was right at the curve. This made it look like it was around 5 inches to long as I recall, but it was in the bend. Ended up working perfect after I moved it to the right position. I had to install the trans line clip set to keep it set when installing it. The engine and trans was in place when I did it. I started from the back of the trans and went forward with the installation. I remember it took a bit of time going through the engine mount/block side. It did seem long at first though.

Doh! Of course!
In hindsight, that does seem obvious.

I used the Lokar kickdown cable on my 727 and had no problems whatsoever. Just bolted it on, adjusted it and that was it! :clueless:

Mine went on pretty much ok too, aside from the cable being too short and the need to bend the bracket a bit.....I understand that with this sort of thing "adjustments" may be needed.

I am hoping that it is Ok once I get the headers on though.....

I had to make a new bracket to bolt on the tranny as it was rubbing ( too close) to the cooler line. Not a big deal I guess? I noticed others on here said the line was too short. Mine is too,( about 1 1/2" too short) but after I thought about it for awhile all I need to do is cut some of the braided stainless outer tube off. This would make the outer tube shorter , in effect making the cable longer? I sure had a few opinions about Lokar's  quality while laying under the car untill I thought of that!  :clueless:
