I am considering purchasing a 340/416 short block from this company but before I do I just wanted to see if anyone had any opinions/comments (good or bad).  I actually have a virgin bore 73 340 block that I was going to build/stroke but CrateEngines wants $3,399.00 which I thought was a decent deal.  Thanks to everyone in advance.  Mike

I'm not sure this is that great of a deal.  My 340/417 stroker that I had built from a local shop here in town cost $4500 (assembled) and the only thing reused was the block, bare heads, and rods, everything else was new.  It has an eagle 4" forged crank and custom forged pistons.

I would check with a few local shops in your area and see what they can do for you using your existing 340 block.   :2cents:

I have not used them but they are Flatlander racing and I've seen the product for sale before. Bear in mind the pisture is not thier shortblock but an MP which includes the cam, timing set, lifters, and timing cover. It is not a fantastic deal price wise. But, they are doing what should be done, and using good parts. The cast 4" cranks can hold close to 600hp when built properly and I've buitl two that make over 700 with the NO2 on them. (Not that I'd recommend that...lol. It wasnt part of the original spec...) A comparable shortblock that I do costs about $200 more assembled but that's with main studs and oiling system work and a set of Eagle H beams. Not the SIR I beams they show.
