Any of you guys running stroker small blocks here?
« on: November 21, 2010 - 07:58:13 PM »
Hi guys, I'm a newb to this forum - just wanna share my upcoming build for my AAR.
I don't feel like punching a rod thru my #'s matching TA block, so I decided it's best I tuck that thing away in a corner and start new. I had a 360 block laying around in my shed, looked at the casting date pf 1971, and thought, "huh, might be a good candidate".
just had it magged and pressure checked, and because it was already bored .040 over in a previous rebuild, I figured i should sonic check also. When I looked at the sonic numbers, they seemed to be little to good to be true. I took block to another shop and they came back also with very good numbers (anywhere from .180~.300 on the thrust surfaces) - depending how far the bores are off crank centerline, there should be enough meat to bring the bores back onto centerline, I'll find out this week when the block is in the cnc.
I'll be going with 4.125 stroke, 6.2 rods, 10.5~11:1 pistons...not sure on heads yet, but I do want aluminum (only for the weight savings, manual steering).
Will be a pump gas street engine - I'm shooting for 500 hp/500 tq with power brakes.
Definitely want an efi of some sort, F&B six pack seems a little steep now - we'll see what we have for options when I'm ready to button the thing up - will keep you guys posted.
Also, this is a work in progress - I'm all ears to any criticism/suggestions, etc......Thanks!

Look in the proven engines section of this forum, and look in the DodgeCharger forum.  Also there are a number of magazine articles, such as HotRod Engines spring 2008 has "LA stroker" article on a 340/416 build for street/strip.
