Clutch size
« on: August 28, 2009 - 11:41:49 AM »
Are all 340 clutches 10.5"? Mine is a '73 if that matters. I want to make sure to order the right size.
Thanks!

130 tooth flywheel  10.5 inch clutch and 10.95 scallop.   This should be for your stock set up :2thumbs:

Moparal.
How do I confirm this with the trans in the car? I want to order the correct clutch before I take the trans out.

If you are going to replace the clutch and pressure plate, it doesn't really matter what you have in there. Just make sure that you get a Borg & Beck style pressure plate, disk and throwout bearing.

Shelbydogg,
I guess what I am saying is, I don't want to order a 10.5" clutch kit if it is supposed be 10.95" or vice versa.
I want to order the right parts before I take the trans. out.

Shelbydogg,
Disregard what I said in my last post.
I was confused! I didn't realize that the 10.5" and the 10.95" had the same bolt circle and could be interchanged.
I am going with the 10.95" scalloped clutch kit.

I think only 440-6 and Hemis had the scalloped clutches but I use them on everthing because of the extra 1/2" of friction material on the outside diameter. I still have the assist rollers in my pressure plate. The faster it spins, the tighter it gets.

Make sure that you get the special 6 bolts for the scalloped pressure plates. They are 3/8 but have a smaller 12 point head to get into the tight space. You don't have to use them but it sure makes tightening them a lot easier that a 9/16 headed bolt.

When you bolt the pressure plate and disk to the flywheel, check your finger height before you install the bellhousing. Some vendors say "no adjustment needed" but I've seen too many out of adjustment and just had to adjust a friends last Wed.   You can see them out of adjustment 1. if the fingers pull too far in when you tighten up the bolts, or 2. if the fingers are still up against the pressure plate when tightened down.

So let me make sure I understand this correctly a 10 1/2 inch flywheel will accept either a 10 1/2 inch clutch kit or a 10.95 inch clutch kit?

Shelbydogg,
Thanks for the tips.
I got the clutch disk, press. plate, t.o. bearing and the special pp bolts. I got everything from Passon Performance. Jamie has always treated me right. I highly recommend his products and services. His customer service is excellent!
I can't wait to get the new clutch installed and the new 2.65 gear set trans. Passon  built for me installed.

Tip, replace the spigot bearing in the back of the crankshaft, it is cheap, easy to remove and replace and you won't have any noises, just putting grease or a few drops of oil in sometimes doesn't work and you won't have to remove everything again to fix.

You can also use an 11" disk inside a 10.95 scalloped pressure plate.

true , the 11" disc is the same for both the 130 & 143 tooth flywheels
