Trans finish ?
« on: August 28, 2009 - 03:40:19 PM »
What is everyone doing to restore the aluminium finish of their auto trans.  Even after cleaning and rebuilding my case was discolored.  I sprayed it with Eastwoods "AlumaBlast" paint but it looks cheasy.  I thought about stripping it off and using a Roloc disc on a 90 degree die grinder to clean up the case.  Will that work or is there a different way?  Thanks

This is the best paint hands down for an auto transmission case finish. Nothing else that I have ever used has come close as far as finish and durability.

I ended up cleaning mine the best I could and then primed it and sprayed it with engine enamel.

"Fresh" from the tranny shop

Primed with engine primer

Silver engine enamel

My trans looks just like yours does.  I just don't know if I want to leave it like that.  Maybe the color will look "closer" to real aluminium when it gets a little dust on it but right now I'm not sold on it.

I wasnt really going for the real aluminum look...just wanted a nice clean looking tranny......the ligt color will make it easy to see leaks, etc.

Now that its done, I dont know if it really even matters....cant really see anything of the tranny except for the very top from under the hood.....or when the car is on a lift...
