Any car that is restored the right way is going to be worth some money.  If you put $25K into a 70 318 Challenger, including adding a big block, it will be worth $25K.  Sure, it might be worth $35K if it was an original big block car, but for a lot of people, myself included, I will by a car based on what it is today, not on what it left the factory as.  As far as running away from it if it's a 318, why  :clueless: ?  I know a ton of people that would love to have a 318 anything to build the way they want to.

    Definately a savable car....
Steel work alone will run you between $15k and $20k with parts
Body work would be about another $8K to 15K depending on how perfect you would want it.

That is what i was saying earlier about 30-45k in the car done now that is complete resto and all restored  drivetrain and body and interior etc.My husband just went and got the paint materials and buffing materials for a car he is doing for someone and it was $2300.00 just for the materials not includeing the primer ,putty, sandpaper, etc. The guy spent another 1200.00 on all that stuff. It isnt hard to spend alot of cash during a restoration. For those who do the car right and spend the money for the right materials it will cost you alot but in the end well worth it.You get what you pay for.It is not cheap or fast to do a car be prepared for the worse but hope for the best.People who dont do the car from the ground up and try to jump around and cut corners are the ones who spend alot less upfront but in the long run cost twice as much.I have seen this time and time again.

Rich, i've been trying to come up with the best answer for your question but you know what they say, "...a picture is worth a thousand words." Check out the resto thread for my R/T SE and it's accompanying pics as my Challenger was in a condition similar to yours when it went to a local shop for whatever the heck kind of a long strange trip i continue to be on :faint:

My plan has always been to bring the car to the level of a dependable long distance cruiser based on the 'fender tag' codes.

As of today, i'm a shade under $34K.

Just my  :2cents:

I think Almost any 70 challenger is worth bringing back.  So far on mine I have replaced both quarters, under rear seat pan, trunk pan, trunk drop offs, trunk braces, both inner and outer wheel houses, both rear frame rails, shock crossmember, rear valance w/cutouts, R/T hood, fuel tank, and I'm sure some parts I've missed.  Sounds like most of the car but the front half was virtually rust free.  I am also doing the R/T clone or I would not have replaced the hood and the rear valance.  Alot of time and money but hopefully it will be worth it.  I would save it if I had to do it part at a time.  I have a rear valance and a flat hood that are perfect if needed.  If you do restore it, think of the car you will have.  I thought I would be driving mine by now but it will be a while longer.  :2cents:  Dano
