lower control arm bushing sleeve
« on: September 14, 2009 - 07:35:30 AM »
I need to get my hands on a pair of LCA bushing sleeves. Mine were shot because the bushing was so far worn the pivot shaft wore through the rubber and damaged them. I am using poly bushings so i need to reuse the sleeves but cant because of their condition. Anyone know if these are autopart store items or need to be mail ordered. If mail ordered who do you know that has them? Thanks.

I highly doubt you can just order the outer sleaves.  You can't just take one from another car because you completly destroy them getting them out.  I used poly bushings but used the stock rubber LCA bushing.  It has been recomended in a lot of places to use the rubber bushing in the LCA.  Something about the poly bushing not being possitivly "locked" into place or something like that.

If you really need the poly bushing in the LCA I would suggest buying a pare of rubber bushings...installing them...and then pressing the inner sleave and rubber out of them.  Then you could install your poly bushing.  It's kind of a round-about way of doing it but that might be your only option.

It would be mechanically impossible for the poly bushing to come out unless the torsion bar fell off your car. Plus the strut rod holds it all back as well. I used poly with no metal sleeve and it fit perfect. Poly rotates on the pin with the silicone grease. Make sure the pin is smooth thats all or it will chew the bushing out quickly.

Thanks for the recomendation. I would never had thought of that.  Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to think of.  As for recomending a rubber bushing over poly i had never heard of that.  I am going to buy new pivot shafts as mine were whipped because they wore through the rubber.
