Rearend question
« on: September 04, 2009 - 07:46:02 AM »
Bear with me on this guys i'm learning as i go. Currently i have the 742 case coarse 10 spline setup with 3:55's. I'm not sure if i have the big or small yoke. After reading on here i now know the measurements for both yokes so i will be able to determine that. Here's my question. I'm considering buying a 489 pig setup with 3:23's fine spline. I'm told it has the small yoke. If i currently have the large yoke, tell me the best way to go about this swap. Does me having the coarse spline affect my rear axles currently in the car? Can someone please help me mentally go through this swap in regards to what all will have to be changed. Thanks in advance.

I think there is a u-joint available that has both the small and big yoke ends on it.  If you used that joint, the swap would be a piece of cake.

Correct, you can get a combination 7260 / 7290 U-joint.
