geting it started
« on: September 07, 2009 - 07:57:33 PM »
Hi, I'm new to this web site. I have a 70 cuda 340 six pack. I just got the car, and I'm having trouble starting it.  What I mean is, seems like I always flood it . Is there a trick to starting those six pack engines? Any advice would help thanks...Harry

Is the choke stuck closed?  Shouldnt be a problem if gas isnt leaking past the floats or the choke stuck. Be careful of a backfire, but have you tried holding the throttle to the floor to clean it out?

Have you checked for spark from the coil?

be aware , the outboard carbs do not have anything to do with initial startup, they are vacuum operated, and only play into w.o.t.
make sure you are not stuck open on the outboards.

just a toss of my  :2cents:

Is it an AAR? Either way, a nice car to start out with.  :wow:

there are a lot of possibilities here
start with checking the float levels ,
make sure the choke is only closing lightly or not even all the way .
is it boiling the fuel when you shut it down , possibly you need to block the heat crossover port in the intake
just push the pedal 1/2 way down before you start it cold to set the choke
& yes the outboards do play a roll , they have mixture screws in the base plate also
