Edelbrock Pro-Flo 2 system for small block mopar
« on: September 28, 2009 - 01:41:29 PM »
I have heard nothing but good things about this system, but am wondering if anyone is using it and how much tuning is involved, and what else is needed to be purchased for the conversion.

I was looking at that kist as well for the 408 stroker I am planning on doing but I think I am going to go with the Fast EZ efi system instead, much easier install, no dyno or laptop tunning, just plug and play and can handle more HP then the edelbrock pro flo + its less expensive

I've got the Pro-flo-1 installed on my 440. It came with everything that you need to get it running except for a coil and spark plug wires. The pro-flo -1 can't be hooked up to a computer to log though.  The -2 system has that capability, but is still pricey-close to $3000 and can be upgraded to a wideband O2 later.    On my next 2 projects, I'm using the Holley Commander 950 systems. They have 2 programmable outputs and 2 inputs, that can be changed via software to run things such as shift lights or nitrous.  I bought my systems for $400 and $500 just by watching craigslist. There is now a program that auto tunes it for you while you drive around, so you don't have to look at a bunch of logs to manually make the changes.

There are systems out there now that come with a wide-band O2 sensor and are less that Edelbrock. If you don't want to have to tune it get this one.

It is a self tuning unit but not a multi-port. Then you could use your own intake manifold.

Do some searches on google about the Edelbrock system. the tuning tables aren't as big as some of the others out there. The Holley's is 16x16.

Thanks for the input. I really like the multi port injection, and from talking to the edelbrock guys the system is self learning and I only need a laptop and program it manually if I want to. They said its leaps and bounds improved over the Pro-flo 1 system.

I would get their system again. Their system was the easiest to install and I personally thanked Vic Edelbrock Jr. when I talked to him on the Power Tour in 04.
The Pro-Flo-V2 is now even better with the laptop and WB-O2 option. I run a hemi-grind cam in my 440 and I currently have my idle set to 600 rpm. I start it and go, just like all of my modern cars.

I leave the calibration module velcroed to my open ashtray door because I use it to monitor my rpm, water temp and PW. I also was able to take out some advance (while driving at 75) after I filled up and noticed that the 93 octane gas I just bought wasn't 93!

$3200 isn't chump change though.  I just saw a new carbureted small block Indy Cylinder Head crate motor in their display 3 days ago, with aluminum heads, for around $3600.

I'll never go back to carburetors though, unless I just want to break something in.

If you get one, make sure that the distributor pickup is glued solidly to the circuit board. After 4 years of driving, mine came loose 7 hours from home. I was able to call Edelbrock and have a distributor over-nighted to me to get me home. The hall effect sensor was a $6 part from Digi-Key, that I could have had in my tool box if I planned ahead, so now I have 2 distros.

Enough of me rambling on.......  just buy it already and start enjoying EFI.....Look in my thread on how I mount my fuel pumps and filters.

Thanks for the info ShelbyDogg. I am convinced it is the right way to go, but $3200 is a little hard to swallow. I have some time before I finish the engine and install it in the car (installation over Thanksgiving).
