Time for shopping
« on: September 15, 2009 - 03:53:14 PM »
I need to take some desicions concerning the setup for my Hemi build since i would like to order some parts
soon. What's the best choice between single or double carbs if "all" I want is nice idle and plenty of vacuum?
Does it have any influence or is that depending only on your camshaft and compression? Going for a shaker
also demands minimal adjusting.

How do you plan to drive the car? Just a nice Sunday cruiser, or will you be taking this down the track? If you are just using the car for nice Sunday drives, and want to keep it simple, stick with one carb and don't go too big with the cam. I don't have power brakes, so my big cam doesn't hurt me, but I assume you do have power brakes? Also, if you go more than 10:1 compression, you won't be able to use pump gas without pinging.

Depends on other things too , basically the drivability & vacuum is controlled by cam mostly , 1 or 2 carbs doesn`t make much difference
the other thing to consider is the look , if you want a shaker for example there are a number of variables such as the original carbs had a very small inlet diameter , so the modern AVS best choice or the AFB  can be hard to fit to an original base plate , they are making a Marine base plate with larger openings though & I believe there is a single 4 base for the shaker as well , if you are going with a Rallley hood thus is obviously less important

OK, since the car only will be used for occasional cruising and IF I will go for the shaker setup it will be
an aftermarket I understand that a singlecarb setup is to prefer.

What about compressionratio then? What's recomended there for my needs? I guess too low isn't
good either. :clueless:

well I believe you  have higher octane fuel available where you are & the Hemi is less prone to detonate so I would say near or slightly below below 10:1 with 92 octane at sea level & 10.25 with 94 or better , you can be slightly higher with altitude
