HELP!!! Need to know how to mount slap stick brackets on floor!
« on: November 12, 2009 - 08:54:04 PM »
AHHH OK got the first bracket tacked in position. got the rod that the spring goes to in position (that goes down to the tranny bracket) Now I realize how the heck am I going to mount the next bracket ( with the shifter installed) I have the linkage in from the shifter to the rod that goes to the tranny. It must be in just the right position to keep the tension on the spring and to make the arm under the floor be in the correct spot to attach the linkage to the tranny arm. Is there a dimension from the first bracket to the front of the shifter bracket or something? Or do I shift the shifter to neutral and position the arm on the first bracket 90 deg. to the shifter linkage or something like that?
HELP!!!  Neil?  Barry? Wagesofsin? anyone?

I think you would attach the shift rod to the tranny shift lever and work back. Have the adjustment swivel in the middle of it's adjustment range. With the tranny in park, and the shifter in park, the shifter will end up pretty much where it is supposed to be. Tack it and then test all the shift positions. That's the way I did mine when I switched it to auto a few years ago. (back to 4sp now)

Ok got everything tacked. Now the shifter linkage hits the neutral safety switch and can't get it into park? Questions are, do I have the long switch in there? ( the hex part of the switch is about 3/4" long)if so how do I ID it and can I just switch it to the short one? Second question, is there different rods for a 727 and a 904? Maybe I have the wrong part?
3rd question. Does the shifter lever on the tranny have splines or just a flat to locate it? I know the kick-down is just a flat, but if the shifter arm has splines that might help?
Thanks Guys!
