codecs
« on: September 22, 2009 - 09:37:24 PM »
granted lots of you guys here are more computer savy than I am. That being said....... Got a new cybershot a few months back....... got a new laptop a few months B4 that. Thought I'd check out the "movie" mode on the camera. Took NIKKI out for a ride let it roll. Now the camera shoots in mp4, the movie maker in the computer says it doesnt have the right codec to play it and put the clips together. Now the sony program (camera) has this pmb thing that i can play and supposedly can convert the mp4 to  wmv wihich windows should play (vista) but even on media player it still wont play... i get the codec msg.  WTF? I have MINIMAL patience for this stuff, and just got the hang of copy and paste recently.. anyone got any experience an ol' guy can use?? THANKS

Go to Download.com and search for Vista Codecs. I had issues playing some videos with XP when I installed it and found a codec pack there that plays everything, and it was free.   :2thumbs:

Thats the first thing I thought of, but I couldn't find anything in the manual. Ive just been on downloads .com. I found a few programs that applied to 32 bit... lucky freakin me... my vista is 64 bit.........  :swear:

Another option is a free program called VLC video player.  It plays damn near anything.
