Vinyl Roof Trim

Hey there.

I'm restoring a 74 Challenger that came with a vinyl roof.  Only problem is that I don't know how the trim below the rear window gets attached.  I've read on the forum that studs were often used, however there are none on my car.  Can someone help me out with some photos and details of the mounting arrangement.

If there are none on your car, someone probably ground them off (like I did with mine). Easiest way is probably using screws to hold the trim clips.

Option 1:  You can get a stud welder and weld new studs back on.

Option 2: Drill holes like the 70 only models used and use the football shaped stud clips that slide inside the stainless trim.  You drop the clips in the holes and put the stamped nuts on them to hold them in place.  I like this method better.

Thanks for the advice, however can you provide me with any insight on where to drill the holes?

I don't have any means of getting you the exact factory hole locations (trim is already on car), but you could position the trim where you want it, mark around it and drill holes inside of your trim outline.  I think the total number of clips was 14 or 16.  I really can't remember at this point.  Does anyone else happen to remember how many clips it takes?

You could also reference off of the points where the old studs were that you say are now missing.  Can you see where they broke off at?

I don't know how big of a hurry your in but the bodyshop that is doing my Challenger made some pemplates of where the pins were on my car before they cut the quarters off.  Once I get the car back you could have that template.  Exactly when I get the car back is another story though.
