Reviving this thread because I've just found it!

I read an article about you before I came on this site, I only discovered you were on here by accident!

Your Challenger is amazing, it's my dream car too! I'm hoping, by saving over the next couple of years and getting extremely lucky that I MIGHT be able to find a numbers matching R/T with a 440 Magnum engine, that's my dream. I'm in the UK so gonna have to look hard. But if I do, what you've done with your car is what I wanna do with mine.

Great job, seriously - I'm in love with Lucy! :burnout: :eek2: :droolingbounce:

Shucks, thanks mate, not sure what to say other than, well, thanks! All the best finding your dream car, patience is a virtue is all I have to say don't give in to temptation and buy a car that you think is "OK" but deep down you know it's not. When you find it, you'll know. ;) Not sure what article you are referring to, only been in 2 magazines and I doubt they made it to the UK, unless it was the online article from the magazine?

Cheers mate.

Thanks Moparal - but it's GOTTA be a 1970 Challenger!

Carlwalski - yeah - it was online - the article you featured on your home page (but I found it on the magazine's site before I discovered your page).

I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to afford a Challenger for some time, or if I'll be suited to one. I'm only 5'6", and these are BIG cars. Members here have already assured me I'll be fine, but I don't know if I'm gonna look tiny in these cars, and I certainly want a car that fits me.

However, I do have my eyes on other cars, too. The 71 Mustang Grande has my eye at the moment, and is a LOT cheaper to buy here in the UK - plus I'm not worried about numbers matching and all that stuff with those cars, I'd make it into the car I want it to be. I'm thinking of 'starting' with one of those - getting used to the whole muscle car thing, and learning from there. I want to 'earn' my dream car - if it fits me!

I'm not looking for a profit from the Mustang - I think it would be good for me to learn more about all the different muscle cars and see what I can afford - but the Mustang is an idea I have, and I do like them a lot.

But Lucy, yeah, that's my on going dream!

Well, I'm biased but I think you should hold out for your Challenger. Easiest way to tell is, both cars side by side exactly how you like them - what keys do you grab first? What ever those keys are is the car you should go for. You'll be fine mate. My Dad is around 5ft-7" and over 60 and he'll be out driving his soon, they are pretty small cars IMO. Smaller than the new gen Chargers and 300Cs etc, in all dimensions, even weight (depending on donk). You'll be fine, the interior is quite confining and tight so it will suit a smaller driver like yourself. How do you plan to source your car? Wait it out in the UK and hope that one turns up sooner or later. Or, import one from the US of A?

 :iagree:

And Rustangs are completely different then Mopars.  Also different then most other Fords for that matter so you really wouldn't learn anything by working on them first.  If you want to learn about Mopars get a Mopar A-body Dart or Duster for example.   Great starter cars for this hobby and you can even fit a 440 in them if you want!!

I just typed out a whole reply and lost it, argh! :banghead:

Anyway - yes, the Challenger is my dream car. But if it came down to that simple choice, it would mess with my head! In the end it comes down to money and availability. In a years time I expect/hope to have saved at least £10,000 towards a car. This is figuring on a basic salary here in the UK minus my expenses and being VERY conservative with my spending (I still live at home so at the moment am fortunate to not have huge bills to pay). So I don't really expect to find a Challenger that I want for that amount, although in reality a year is less than I am planning around. I would say in 2 years I'd likely have enough to start looking.

I guess the size thing concerns me - at the moment I drive a Ford Fiesta and it fits me perfectly. Headroom is just right - I look straight out the middle of the windscreen. I know the headroom in the Challenger is about the same (37.something inches) but because the seats are lower I'm not sure. That said, I know in Vanishing Point that Barry Newman looks like he's hunching inside the Challenger quite a lot of the time, and he's only about 6'. But that's besides the point - I really need to get to some shows and see these cars for myself.

In regards to the Mustang, it's a car that I could afford and I like it when it's painted like this:

Realistically, I could buy one of those here in the UK and paint it like that and do the interior all for under £10,000. I've started talking to some guys who live a few miles from me who are involved with Mustangs themselves, so it'll be good to see some 'in the flesh'. The Challenger will always be my goal - it just depends on the money at the time and how I feel. I see the Challenger as more of a long term thing - where as the Coupe would be my daily driver until I decide I want to sell it on and feel I have the space and time for a Challenger. That's the idea.

In terms of where - I'd hope to find one in the UK, or at least Europe, purely so I can see it. If not, I'd look toward anywhere that has one, and pay an independent inspector to check it out for me.

And yes, I would paint my Coupe like that one! :2thumbs:

Sounds like you have a level head and think things through, you'll be sweet mate. The size thing, honestly, they are small cars. Remember, they're pony, not muscle. Chargers are big cars. However, even then, both the Charger and Challenger/Cuda's are still small and compact in the interior seating positions.

The rear seat space is non existent. Only kids or guys built like girls can fit comfortably in the rear. In terms of where you're buying it, fair enough, you have to buy it where you can find these. I was looking for around 6 months? and found Lucy locally, 30 minutes drive from my house. You never know sometimes. Definitely get it checked out by someone reputable.

Once again, best of luck in your quest.

Thanks Carl, I think I just need to get in one and stop worrying about it. I've seen loads of pics of girls with Challengers, and they are clearly pretty short, and they look fine. But girls are girls, and can look good with a lot of things - seeing small guys with big cars always looks odd to me, but like you say, comparing the Charger and Challenger is a pretty big difference.

I'm not sure what I'll do - I think when I have a good amount saved up (say 8k plus) I'll start looking around. I realise that 8k isn't going to be enough but at least I'll have somewhere to start. If I start seriously looking for bargains in a year or so I'll have a good amount saved up (hopefully) to start making serious offers. I have a job interview next week so I'm hoping something will come of that. With any luck I could have about 15k stashed away in 'car fund' by this time next year. I might still go the Mustang route to start. I like the coupe - odd shape as it is, and if I can get one here and make it my own I think I could have some fun with it. Then the Challenger will be next. We'll see.

Gotta get me to some car shows in the next year!

Ah, the last time I was a regular on here, along w/ Lucy, you had a TX9 Hemi 'Cuda clone - nothing about Batram or the SRT8.

Nice touch on the 0A5599 plates - surely magazines will hit you up when the next Vanishing Point wave of nostalgia hits.
