That is pretty bad, but whats worse is the gov. poisoning all of us with fluoride, its in your city drinking water, toothpaste, etc. there is now overwhelming evidence that its toxic to humans and alot of countries have banned it, heres just one article theres tons more out there.  http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/07/whats-the-deal-with-fluoride/

50% of ALL U.S. waters are polluted and do not meet current water quality standards.  This is a sad but true fact. And, it has a huge impact on all of us and our future generations.  Yes, many companies, have in the past, and continue to pollute our waters at an alarming rate.  But do you know who the biggest polluters of our waters are?

Industrial activities?……no

Construction activities?……..no

Mining activities?………….no

Urbanized areas?............YES!  That’s right folks, we as individuals in urbanized areas are the biggest polluters of our waters.  And, yes we are regulated as well as all those other activities.

Water quality laws and getting tougher and will continue to get tougher in the future.  Think air quality and where those laws have gone over the last twenty years.

I wonder how a public water supply does not meet any State or Federal drinking water standards for heavy metals (not to mention water that causes skin problems which may be another issue completely).  This system would be shut down.  Something doesn't sound accurate here...oh..it's the NY Times...better take into account the source.  :poopoke:

No doubt.  Who needs a prescription when you can get estrogen and so many pharmaceuticals right from your tap water! lol.  Sad, I shouldn't laugh.

Don't be so sure.  The government isn't proactive when it comes to issues like this.  When was the last time the US did due diligence and banned a carcinogen before it caused cancer?  10 years ago the European Union banned using certain types of phthalates in children's toys.  Just in the last year or so, the US banned phthalates from baby bottles.  Unfortunately, in the US a chemical is legal until someone proves it dangerous.  In Europe, it's the other way around and the company using it has to prove it's safe before it can expose the public to it.
Heck, even substances which have been banned for years are sold to us.  Lead paint has been a no-no for years here, yet until recently some chinese made toys sold here were coated in paint containing lead.  Since you don't trust like the NY Times, here's a reference from the more trustworthy FoxNoise.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,293046,00.html

"Mattel Inc., one of the largest U.S. toy companies, was forced to recall 967,000 plastic preschool toys made by Lee Der because they were decorated with paint found to have excessive amounts of lead. The toys, sold in the U.S. under the Fisher-Price brand, included likenesses of Big Bird and Elmo, as well as the Dora and Diego characters."

You're mixing apples and oranges here.  Back to the water issue, I could see a private well get impacted and people get exposed, but public water supplies are strictly monitored by State/Local agencies and are the resposnibility of the water system owners to ensure regulations are met.  If it got to the point where people are getting exposures via a public water system, it would be shut down by the State or Feds and lawyers would be coming out of the woodwork.  Whoever is responsible for the water system (private or public suppliers) would be criminally liable.  I know of very small public water systems that have been shut down immediately due to nitrites from nearby septic systems so this story is suspicious.  If true, someone should go to jail.  The system is not perfect, but we are way beyond the Love Canel days in environmental and public protection.  :2cents:

I live in Milwaukee the cryptosporidium capital of the midwest. There was a bad outbreak here some years ago. And we have a fairly modern treatment facility. Somebody was sleepn' at the switch...  :2cents:
