Points to electronic ignition......
« on: October 11, 2009 - 07:31:01 AM »
I will soon be switching engines, the 318 had points, and the 340 Stroker that's going in has electronic ignition. I hear there is a wiring harness that will cure that problem.
Can you guys help with the who, where and how much?
Thanks for any assistance!

There are several ways to approach this depending on what you want & how much you want to spend.

If You want an OE look there are Conversion kits that include a new Distributor, ECU, Harness, & Ballast ... these run from 200-250.00

If you already have the Distributor & want the OE look the other items can be purchased separately for about 60-100 depending on the ECU you want.

If you already have the Distributor & care more about performance there are Electronic systems starting under 200, wiring included.

If you need everything but don't care there are ready-to-run distributors with on-board electronics staring under 150.00 no wiring needed.

This is what I'd do... about $35.00 & make my own bracket

Mopar performance sells the harness for around 19 bucks or so. Ask member Dave he runs roseville mopar parts and gives discounts. Also at the parts house, get a 72 cuda 340 electronic box. They were the best ones offered and an hp version. Car Quest just sold me an electronic rebuilt distributor for 47 bucks on friday. But there was a core charge. If you get a 72 340 distributor, it will have the correct vaccum advance

Mancinis also has control boxes & harnesses available
I usually just get the harness from a truck @ the wrecking yards , all you need to do is soder the blue wire to the dark blue wire at the ballast , plug in the dist & hook the black wire to the - coil terminal
