horn problem
« on: September 30, 2009 - 04:14:19 PM »
All right guys, i'm breaking a rule...
This is not on my cuda but on my dodge Aspen RT.

When you turn a corner, or turn on the blinker the horn goes off.
I just put a tuff wheel on it, and I un-hooked the horn from the wheel, If I grab the can
that sits below the wheel and turn it slightly, the horn still honks, no steering wheel and the horn is not connected to the wheel or button, I just turn the can and honk!

is this a ground short somewhere? horn relay?  i'm stumped...

Sounds like the horn wire is grounding inside the can.  No problems with your previous wheel, I assume?

If it is like the E-Body cars, the wire coming up the column will activate the horn when it meets ground...Either thru the horn button, or in this case somewhere else. Check that wire and see if it is pinched somewhere or the insulation on it has been worn off.

Put some tape around the end of the horn wire you took off the original wheel. :2thumbs:

The horn wire is the original, I added an e-body can and a tuff wheel, did not need an adapter.
It was not doing it at first, oh for at least 4 months, and then it just started, it started only when she turned right, now its just right, left, touch the wheel it goes off.  The horn wire from the wheel to the
bottom of the can is all good, it must be under the can?  I'll pull it off and start tracking it, will let you guys know when i pull the can, and what I find.

BTW - THANKS for the help with my 'cuda - it all works perfect now, could not have done it without you guys!  I appreciate it.
