for some reason, I was thinking a quartz clock was about .010 amps, but they may vary

in mine there is a problem in the steering column wiring ,,most of the time its fine,,but if i bump the column with my foot it can cause turn signal not to function or the door buzzer quits or some other small problem,,i start my car once a day and so i dont see a battery drain,,but as i said most of the time its fine,,but when it messes up i can reach down at the bottom of the column and move the wires and it straightens up nicely,,not to high jack the thread but does anybody reproduce the steering column wireing harness?

I'm not sure what harness you are messing with, but the harness for the turn signals is part of the switch itself. Have you replaced that? I have a '70, so I don't know if that has anything to do with the door buzzer.

When I read the draw between the negative post and the disconnected neg cable it reads about .08 amps at first, and within a few seconds drops down to about .06 or .05 amps. Dont know why it drops but is .05 amp an acceptable draw? Is that what a quartz clock draws?
If you still have the instructions from the quartz clock upgrade it probably says what current it draws. I don't think it would draw as much as you were reading. :clueless:
I just went out and checked my car and it is drawing 0.00064 amps or .6mA. But my clock doesn't work (it has read ten to two since I installed the rallye dash) and the only thing being powered up is a relatively new Sony CD/Radio.
I would disconnect the clock and check the current draw, note it, then disconnect the radio and check the current draw. After the radio is disconnected, the draw should be zero. If it isn't, either you have other aftermarket add-ons, or there is a problem somewhere else. If you don't have other add ons, do the "remove one fuse at a time" then check current draw that was suggested earlier and then post what fuse removal (if any) got rid of the current draw. We'll figure it out eventually.

Somethins not right then.... I don't know what the KEY is but a feedback is created & all the accessories that were on should turn on/off with the flash of the emergency flasher.
Hey Bullitt. I've been trying all sorts of combination's but I can't replicate what you're saying. Maybe with the re-wiring with relays and the ammeter removal interupted the feedback path. :dunno:

I guess deviation from stock could effect... I just thought the problem mentioned prior mimicked in some ways this little anomaly I was aware of.

Actually thats the first one I ruined, then I bought a couple much nicer $20 and $35 meters, also from Harbor Freight....both of those toast now also!! I am NEVER gonna buy one of the real nice ones.
Its hard to believe how cheap those chinese can produce stuff. You would think it would cost more than that just to ship it half way around the world. Anyways...I keep forgetting to switch the connections. I'll quickly switch over to check voltage without moving the wire over from the amp connection, and bam, or bzzzz, it fries every time. I think I have adult ADD.

I've ruined a few getting them wet....I could not do much electrical without one.

Most inaccurate meter i've ever seen. I bought one at $2, for just throwing in the back of my car. I compared it to my craftsman and my snap on, not even close! Skitters around readings, off by a half volt, oof. Craftsman is pretty decent..

That'll do it. Reading voltage on the amp setting is like connecting a wire from power to ground and unfortunately, your meter becomes the fuse. :swear: Been there,Done that. :banghead:
