how to refinish bumper fillers on 73-74 E-bodies?
« on: October 06, 2009 - 10:43:51 AM »
I just read this question on another site and thought I'd ask it here.  The 73-74 Cudas/Challengers have gray rubber filler panel on the front and rear.  The rear fillers on the Challenger are painted argent as are the front fillers on the Cuda .  The front filler on the Challenger and the rear filler on the Cuda are the natural gray of the rubber and are not painted.

What is everyone doing to restore those pieces?  Is there a way to get the rubber looking new again or do you need to spray them with a paint that closely matches the natural gray finish?  If so...what paint are you using?  Thanks

I painted them with SEM plastic paint that is meant for plastic front/rear end surrounds. I didn't try to replicate the original colour, just painted then semi-gloss black. It has been 15 years and still holding up well.

Yah, I have seen people paint them black or body color.  I need to match the origonal gray color or restore them without paint if that's possible.

I used a flexagent in the argent paint then got them sprayed. They look pretty good. Flex agent is for when you bend the plastic and prevents the paint from cracking.

The front fillers aren't argent.  They are just the natural gray of the rubber.
